How To Get Rid Of Keratosis Pilaris, Fast

Small, hard bumps on the backs of your arms, legs or butt cheeks? Sounds like keratosis pilaris, also known as KP, chicken skin or strawberry legs.

While it’s not harmful, this skin condition can get in the way of your confidence. If you’re one of the up to 40% of adults that deal with KP at some point, we’re here to help you understand, manage and banish chicken skin for good.

Are those bumps KP?

Keratosis pilaris is caused when your hair follicles are blocked by excess keratin and dead skin cells. Here’s how to identify KP:

  • Small, hard bumps that are white, red or brown depending on your skin tone.
  • They may look like pimples, but they don’t pop like a zit
  • Usually found in patches on the back of the arms, thighs, calves or butt cheeks
  • While they’re not super itchy, they can get dry and irritated in cold weather
  • Most common in kids & teens, and those with fair skin

So long, chicken skin!

Okay, so while there’s no instant fix for KP, this pesky skin problem can usually be managed with a targeted body care routine. Here’s how:

Stay moisturized: Apply rich body lotion to prevent the skin drying out, and consider a humidifier in the winter months

Avoid super hot showers: Extreme temps can irritate the skin and disrupt the moisture barrier, leading to KP. Try to have lukewarm showers instead!

Be gentle with scrubbing: While it can be tempting to scrub away at texture, too much friction can actually make it worse. Just the process of showering is usually enough physical exfoliation.

Use a chemical exfoliant: Exfoliating formulas that contain ingredients (such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid) can help to “unglue” that buildup of keratin in the hair follicles. The Get It Bright Exfoliating Body Scrub will help to dissolve the buildup that creates those KP bumps without further irritating or drying out your skin.

When in doubt, keep it clean.

While there’s no overnight cure for keratosis pilaris, the proper body care routine can help you manage flare ups and keep your skin feeling smooth and soft. By prioritizing moisturization and gentle exfoliation, you can keep those hair follicles clear and prevent chicken skin.

Forgotten Skincare creates effective formulas with clean ingredients for all those forgotten areas on your body. So, instead of ignoring patches of keratosis pilaris or using products that are too harsh, instead opt for gentle formulas like the limited edition Get It Bright Exfoliating Body Scrub.
